SI joint fusion surgery allows the patient to return home on the same day the surgery is performed or possibly the next morning. Minimally invasive spine surgery reduces risk of infection because the spinal area is not exposed. Tiny incisions are made using X-Ray Flouroscopy. The Spine Center, located in Houston, TX, offers its services to outlying areas, including Garland, Texas. For a consultation call Dr. Siddiqui's office at 281-292-1121 or visit the Spine Center website at www.SurgicalSpineSolutions.com/Services/MinimallyInvasiveSurgery.
Causes of Pain in the Lower Back
Whether you have had a lower back injury, have arthritis, osteoporosis, scoliosis (curvature of the spine) or if your hips are out of alignment, pain in the lower back may suddenly occur. You may have been treated at the time of the injury with physical therapy, medication or surgery. The pain is usually caused by sitting in a low uncomfortable chair, from jogging or even walking. You may sleep on the affected area, you may cough or sneeze and suddenly the pain is back. Chronic low back pain doesn't usually disappear, then reappear again. It causes ongoing pain.
Problems Associated with Low Back Pain
Pain in the lower back can limit your activities of daily living. It restricts most any type of physical activity. It causes loss of sleep and pain when sitting, standing, jogging and walking. It is difficult to carry out normal household activities like caring for children, cooking, cleaning, grocery shopping, going to work or attending school.
Treatment Plans
Consultations are available at the Houston Spine Center. After completing a medical history, a physical exam will take place. There will be many questions asked in reference to the location of the pain, when the injury occurred, how it was treated and your current level of everyday activity. Either an Xray, CAT Scan or MRI will be performed for a proper diagnosis. The doctor will suggest a treatment plan, either physical therapy, pain medication or radio frequency treatments. If none of these treatments work, spine surgerymay be recommended.
SI Joint Fusion and its Benefits
SI joint fusion surgery may be recommended for the patient whose sacroiliac joint can no longer bear weight without causing pain. This procedure fixes the joint to its normal position so that weight bearing can once again take place. It strengthens the sacroiliac joint. An ifuse implant may be recommended to stabilize the joint. With minimally invasive spine surgery the spine is not exposed. Movement is minimized, the SI joint is stabilized. It provides immediate relief so that the patient can stand soon after surgery and go home either the day of the surgery or the next day.
